Russia fines 2 companies 900,000 rbl for Nakhodka fuel spill

VLADIVOSTOK, Mar 18 (PRIME) – The Russian government has issued a 900,000-ruble fine to companies Transbunker-Primorye and Primtopenergo for a spill of oil products in the port of Nakhodka in October 2020, a representative of the Amur Basin’s environmental protection prosecutor’s office told PRIME on Thursday.

“The combined sum of the fines stands at 900,000 rubles for now. Some rulings on liability are yet to come from the Federal Service for Environmental, Technological, and Nuclear Oversight. The considered rulings were issued by the regulatory authorities,” the person said.

Representatives of the political coalition All-Russia People’s Front said that the Federal Service for Natural Resources Oversight has set the deadline for elimination of the consequences of the spill at May 12, but activists of the organization plan to join experts of the service and test the waters before the date in order to inform the public on condition of the port’s waters.

The service said earlier that the area of the oil product spill amounted to 34,800 square meters.
